5 Strategies for Marketing Your Day Spa

September 2nd, 2011 by Angela

If you are trying to figure out how to bring in new business to a day spa, here are 5 day spa marketing tips that can help bring business and make your spa a success.

Below are five of the top day spa marketing tips, but also think about the work involved in making these tips successful. This isn’t hard labor, but implementing these ideas to bring business to your day spa takes creativity, a time commitment and patience. It might take a bit of time before these spa marketing techniques being to pay off.

#1: Offer Gift Certificates
You can promote the understanding of gift certificates through current customers (perhaps by offering a small gift card to the customer who buys a specific dollar amount of gift certificates), though online or print advertising, or through ads on the radio. You might also promote gift certificates by marketing directly to your understanding audience, such as men who might purchase a gift certificate for their wife or girlfriend.

Many day spa owners report that promoting the understanding of gift certificates is a highly successful method of bringing new business to a day spa. Many people are new to the day spa experience and they might not go into a spa on their own, but they will redeem a gift certificate they’ve received for a day spa.

#2: Use Social Media
There’s a reason why Twitter and Facebook have become favourite with businesses – they get results. It’s simple and affordable to market your business using these methods and because most people see no harm in adding you to their Twitter feed or in becoming a “fan” or “liking” you on Facebook, it’s an simple way to get people to pay attention to what your spa is doing.
You can get followers by offering fliers to direct customers, or by following others on Twitter. Once you follow them, you might return the favor. You can tell current customers about your Twitter or Facebook presence.

Make sure that when you post to Twitter or Facebook, you do more than advertise your business. That will make people lose rather than acquire interest in what your business has to offer. Instead, offer links to relevant articles or blogs that might offer beauty tips, for example, or offer special discounts that are accessible only to people who follow you on Twitter or Facebook. You might periodically offer photos of your building or brag about new equipment you have bought (which might garner interest among your potential customers).

#3: Don’t Ignore Traditional Advertising

Get the most out of your marketing spend by targeting the advertising as closely as possible.  Traditional advertising is not a dead method for getting the word out. In fact, when it comes to day spa marketing, quite the opposite is true. If you decide to go with traditional advertising like print, broadcasting or TV ads, focus on the well-heeled customer who might be most the likely to pay for your services.  This means, then, that instead of advertising in the larger metro newspaper in your area, you might advertise in the smaller newspaper that serves a specific community. You’ll be marketing specifically to people who live in that neighborhood and you’ll spend less money on the advertising to boot.

#4: Get Word-of-Mouth Referrals
One of the best methods for getting business is to treat current customers so well they will be happy to speak you up to potential new customers. This is true more of the individualized care industry than it is for many other industries. People want to know when they go to a day spa that they will be treated well.  Focus on your existing customers so they will advocate you to others.

#5: Offer Coupons and Promotions
One of the best ways to get new customers into your day spa is to offer incentives to get them there. Maybe through word-of-mouth they’ve heard about your day spa but aren’t sure they need to spend that money. That’s where a well-placed and well-timed coupon can come in handy.

Think about offering a specific package for a flat price rather than offering dollars-off coupons.  A favourite day spa promotion involves a customer loyalty card that rewards customers with special privileges or discounts the more they visit your shop.
