Acne after quitting birth control? Should I take it again?
March 20th, 2011Question: Acne after quitting birth control? Should I take it again?
I stopped taking BC pills about a year ago. Ever since then my hormones seem to have been all out of wack. My period is irregular, and sometimes extremely heavy, and now I have really bad acne. I never experienced any of this before I took birth control pills. I am considering taking them again to equilibrium my hormones, but I don’t like putting hormones/drugs in my body unless i totally have to, so I am kind of torn. Do you think my hormones will equilibrium themselves out after a while? It has already been a year! Should I just go back ot birth control?

Changing hormone levels in girls and women may cause a flare in their acne 2 to 7 days before their menstrual period starts. Hormonal changes related to pregnancy or starting or stopping birth control pills can also cause acne.
Usually, Caucasians have a harder time with acne and this is compounded by this hormonal change. You may try fighting the acne with a good OTC drug instead of reverting back to using the pill.
If you’re looking for accurate acne information, best to see a dermatologist. Some people believe doctors are predisposed to take the easy way to deal with acne… prescription drugs. But, with many, this simplistic answer may not be the appropriate course of action. Some feel that such prescription drugs just treat the symposium and not the underlying cause. But, a local dermatologist is still your best starting point.
For me personally, I discovered a great informational acne treatment site. Not only is there good information/articles but I got their audio e-book and following it’s advice can now say that my acne is a thing of the past! Keep in mind, were all different and there are various types of acne, so what works for some may not be totally effective for all.
Bottom line, hang in there, you will get past this! Sincere best wishes and good luck.
