Acne in Men

Acne is an affection that does not affect only teenagers and women, it can also occur in men at any age, therefore it is highly important for men to know what they are dealing with when Acne occurs in them.

It seems that in most of the cases of men Acne the pimples appear due to an increased level of androgens that lead to a big sebum secretion by the skin glands. These skin glands will clog up, inflammation will follow and all the process will finalize with a red, painful pimple.

Doctors have divided pimples in two categories: the blackheads which form when a clog is prefabricated within a hair canal and the whiteheads that form within the sebaceous follicle and look like a white tip.

Men that suffer from Acne must know that shaving is not a cause of pimples but it can interfere with the process of healing. They should use a calibre shaving cream and a sharp blade when shaving and this way they will stay away from an irritated or nicked skin. Also, when washing their face they should use only oil free products that will not clog the pores up. Face washing should be done twice a day, first in the morning and then before going to bed and scrubbing has to be avoided in order not to irritate the skin.

One of the causes of Acne is stress and we are not taking here about the regularly stress which most men are exposed to at work. The profound tension is a element that can lead to an overproduction of hormones and then to pimples. So, try to rest and manage stress better.

There are lots of men that think of popping their pimples. This is not a good theory as germs from the hands or from inside the zit might spread to other healthy parts of the skin and colonize it, and so, more pimples will appear. Not to mention that squeezing the zits can lead to scars and some of them will never disappear from the skin. Most of the comedons do not leave marks on the skin after they heal but those that are deep and look like cysts can leave scars if they are mistreated.

Acne can occur in any part of the body except the palm of the hand and sole of the foot where hair canals for the skin pores do not exist. No matter where Acne has appeared you can use the same cream you use for treating Acne for all your body zones that are affected by this disorder.

Treating Acne must be done by a dermatologist. He will mostly advocate you creams and lotions prefabricated out of plants like chamomile and tea tree and substances like metal sulfate, protodioscin and salicylic acid. There is a fast-acting anti-Acne cream titled “ActivClear” which can help men in fighting Acne and its advantages are that it does not only clear up existing Acne, but also prevents the reappearing of Acne.

Question: Back acne for a 33 year old man?
I am 33 years old, in good general health, not fat and I do not have any other skin problems. The occasional zit (maybe once a month) will show up on my face or somewhere else but that’s it.

Although there has always been the occasional zit on my back, in the last 6-8 months it has become much worse. Scrubbing the daylights out of it with soap, or clearasil body wash or other salicylic acid treatments, or getting my wife to blot zit cream on them….nothing has worked.
Sounds like it’s time for a visit to the dermatologist but I was wondering if anyone here had any knowledge of this. I did not have severe acne as a teenager.

I’ll check back – if anyone asks me any questions I’ll try to answer them. Thanks
I do drink a acceptable amount of caffeine but that has always been the case.

do you drink a lot of soda? or caffeinated drinks? that can be a cause of eczema. try drinking water and only water for a month and see what happens.

i know a girl amd her brother who had bad acne…they put them on some type of antibiotic i think. it worked great for them.

im not sure how long she was on it though she told me but i cant remember.

sometimes cleaning acne isnt always the best choice. my aunt usta get things horrible on her legs and face just bc of the water she was cooking and drinking.

I have the same problem. I went to the dermatologist and he said that I have a over active sweet glans. My doc said that this is normal for a person my age 30. The doc gave me a prescription but that gave me a side affect. What I found out is put a dab of toothpaste on the zit and it dry’s out with in a day. Good luck.

Treatment could include lotions or gels you put on blemishes or sometimes entire areas of skin, such as the back (topical medications). You might also take medications by mouth (oral medications).

    Mild acne

Treatment for mild acne (whiteheads, blackheads or pimples) may include:

Gentle cleansing with a mild soap (such as Dove or Neutrogena).

Applying benzoyl peroxide (such as Benoxyl, Benzac, or Clearasil).

Applying salicylic acid (such as Clearasil, Propa pH, or Stri-Dex).

If these treatments do not work, your doctor may prescribe topical lotions containing antibiotics or other kinds of bacteria-killing medication.

To prevent acne on your back:

Gently wash and care for your skin every day. Avoid scrubbing too hard or washing too often.

Avoid heavy sweating if you think it causes your acne to get worse. Wash soon after activities that cause you to sweat.

    Wear soft, cotton clothing .

Avoid exposure to oils and harsh chemicals, such as petroleum.

Avoid long periods of time in sunlight, as this doesn’t help acne and can increase your risk of skin cancer. Use sunscreens when you are out in the sun.
