Bacne is caused by the same things that cause facial acne, chest acne, and really any acne. The sebaceous glands on your back are likely secreting too much oil, and because we wear clothing that generally covers the area, that can lead to potential acne. Wearing clothes that have been worn before washing them, wearing tight clothes, sleeping on dirty linens, stress, so many things can cause bacne.

I’d recommend looking for a medicated body wash designed for body acne. If you can’t find one, then just use a facial wash instead. As these medicated washes only work for some, it may not significantly improve your skin but it’s worth a try. You can also try using a fine body scrub. There are some that are designed for acne which may help. You can also use topical treatments, however on such a large surface it will become expensive. I’ve read that Calamine lotion helps, so you could try that.
I would actually advise that you talk to your doctor. They can prescribe you with acne medications, and could possibly prescribe you something like a body wash, or maybe something oral. The only thing that has gotten rid of my chest and back acne was going on birth control (but I went on for my period, helping my skin was just an added bonus). Talk to your doctor, they can help and find you something that will work.

For scarring, it will just go away on it’s own. And it depends on the type of acne you have on your back. If it’s big cystic pimples, those might scar a lot more than just regular ones. I have just normal, smaller bumps on my back, and once they healed up I really didn’t have any scarring – I’m assuming it’s simply because unlike your face, it’s hard to reach your back which means you can’t really touch the acne on your back like you can your face. There are products out there that can speed up the fading of scars, like mederma and bio oil, so you could try something like that if there ends up being some scarring. Otherwise, just use a fine body scrub every week (once or twice a week should suffice) and moisturize the area, the skin itself will do its work.
