alternative skin/acne treatment?

April 25th, 2011 by Carrie

Question: substitute skin/acne treatment?
I have sensitive skin that is prone to breaking out. Not large pimples, they are more like smaller bumps. Not sure how to treat them. Salycilic acid makes my skin all red and dry, and I don’t like using skin products containing it. I have heard lavender can calm skin, and I have tried it, but it didn’t work as well as I would have liked. Could my diet be influencing my skin? I am just looking for substitute treatments that have worked for other people’s skin. thanks!

Your diet can totally cause your skin to break out, so can hormones.
If you’re constantly intake greasy, junk food, your skin will be greasy and broken out. Avoid sodas, fast food, junk food, ect.
Try intake lots of fresh veggies, and fruits.
Also drink lots of water, being dehydrated, can actually cause you to break out.

Try pouring boiling water into a bowl and putting you face close to it, with a towel over your head. Sit there for 10-15 minutes, then use a towel, dipped in ice water, to rub your face. The steam opens your pores, and the cold water closes them.

I’ve also heard that witch hazel can be effective in treating acne. I’ve never tried it.

Try an apricot, sea salt, or sugar scrub/exfoliator. You should be ready to get them where ever most face cleaners are sold. I personally LOVE apricot scrubs. I use one on my whole body.

There are also tons of face peels that you can get, that do not contain salicylic acid. I love those also.

Good luck!

    Hello!

I use witch hazel and essential oils to clear up my skin. It works really well for me. I found the idea at this web site: http://www.100pureessentialoils.com/pages/Methods-of-Application.html
    they wrote this
“Skin Toner – This method is very easy for daily use and usually does not leave skin feeling oily. Combine 2 mls (50 drops) of essential oil, 15 drops Rosehip Seed Oil, 5 drops Kukui Nut Oil, 5 drops Sweet Almond Oil and 2 oz Witch Hazel. Put into a spray bottle and shake gently until blended. Spray onto a cotton ball and apply gently to the face. The dirt will be removed by the witch hazel and the oils will be deposited onto the skin leaving it feeling soft and silky.”

I don’t use the sweet almond oil, and I add helichrysum and carrot seed oil. My skin issues are all gone and my skin is looking younger and healthier. I highly recommend it if you are trying not to dry out your skin and make it flaking just to clear up the acne.
