Anti Wrinkle Programs – Fad or Friend?

September 2nd, 2010 by Angela

Anti wrinkle skin care products are all the anger lately.  There are spas, costly serums and books on the subject .

The treatments accessible at spas might be effective, but they are costly and many times are accompanied by unwanted side effects.  A tiny redness or irritation are nearly expected .  But, many of the treatments in truth bring forth bleeding.  Women that have them can't leave their houses for days.

Reading a book about the topic couldn’t hurt.  Nicholas Perricone has one of the most complete programs.  It includes dietary recommendations and other helpful hints.  His line of skin firming products is seriously missing in many ways .

One would think that a dermatologist would demand that a formula with his study on it was free of allergens.  Usual reasons for visiting the dermatologist’s office are supersensitive or adverse reactions caused by toxic ingredients in cosmetics .

Perhaps Dr Perricone is not aware that artificial preservatives like parabens and added fragrances are the most frequent causes of unwanted side effects.  But, he’s probably just going along with the policies created by the major skin care companies.

They insist that artificial preservatives are necessary to reduce the risk of infection caused by bacterium growing in the tubes and bottles.  Other companies differ.  They state that natural vitamin E is an effective preservative and is also good for the skin’s health.

Research conducted by Consumer Reports recommend that costly anti aging serums are no superior than affordable ones.  All of the products they tested were beneficial for a number of (not all) of the volunteers, even the easy moisturizer that they used for comparison .

The most striking results were seen when products contained specific compounds.  Coenzyme Q10, peptide complexes, bioactive keratin, natural skin lighteners, kelp extracts, grape seed oil, avocado extract and Shea butter are among the most beneficial compounds, according to several independent studies .

So, here’s my advice .  Look for a good all-natural skin care product and use it each day.  If you don’t know what the ingredients are, do some research and find out .  Buying anti wrinkle skin care products without doing the research is putting your skin’s health and appearance at risk .
