November 10th, 2010 Question: Malo, painful, horrible confidence, breaking the acne? qu? stico …? owwww, it really hurts, I do not need drugs, I already went to the dermatologist? logo for that. It all started? when I started? using Proactiv and gave me acne? qu? wrap. ? I can sue? And secondly there anything I can do to numb? and I can cover with a thick layer of makeup? No, you can’t sue. Well, you might find a lawyer and file, but it’s very doubtful you would see any money. Proactiv didn’t give you cystic acne, for a start. It’s one of the things they actually use to try to help get it under control. Not sure if you are discussing one painful spot or a multitude, but makeup would be the last thing you’d want to slather on your face if you are having skin problems. Acne breakouts are due to overactive sweat glands and an overgrowth of bacteria on the skin, and if the bacteria gets into the skin- well, that’s when the problem starts. For individual painful spots you can use an ice cube to get some temporary relief. However, the best relief comes when the spot drains itself, and for that you do best to apply moist heat actually. You should also return to see the dermatologist, because Proactiv is just one of many things that can be tried and used to help you. You might benefit from a short term of low dose antibiotics, to help control the bacteria numbers. At any rate, for one really sore spot, try either the ice or apply heat for draining. Heat will make it look uglier for a bit, as it will increase the blood supply in the area- but it also helps hasten healing because of the extra supply. Whatever you do, don’t slather on anything else. If you routinely use foundation, especially if it’s liquid, you might consider tossing the old stuff out and replacing it with new. Liquid makeup gets contaminated with bacteria from your fingers and face, and basically becomes a bacteria soup after a while. If you’re really breaking out, that’s one source you can eliminate. And stick with the dermatologist even if it looks like things are getting worse at first. Acne breakouts are about a month in the making before you see the signs of trouble, so it’s at least a month to six weeks before you can expect to see results from any treatment and changes. In that time, you can continue to have breakouts, and it might look like nothing is working, so just don’t lose heart. Sorry you have the problem, and I hope you can find a solution with the doctor.
