Considering trying Paragard?
March 7th, 2009Question: Considering trying Paragard?
Im 23 yrs old. No kids. I have always suffered with acne (light to moderate). My main concern with birth control is weight acquire and acne. I have been reading reviews for paragard and it seems that these problems are not a concern seeing its non hormonal. But im a tiny concern with the heavy bleeding and cramps … i have a low tolerance to pain! Usually my period is 3-4 days, regular flow and minimum cramps. It would be helpful if people who have tried this share their experience with me… thanks!

I have paraguard, periods are absolutely a lot longer. 6 -7 days and they are a lot of heavier. I’ve read that they don’t usually do IUD’s for women who haven’t had children yet. you might want to look into that or ask your physician about it.

A previous poster is incorrect about the preference being that you’ve had children. That’s an outdated practice and regarded as having little merit. I’ve never been pregnant, and I was actually not even a legal adult when I had mine inserted. No complications and insertion wasn’t any worse than bad menstrual cramps.
I’m a few days from my second period with ParaGard. The first 3-6 cycles are supposed to be the worst, but it didn’t make mine any longer than usual (4.5 days) and I only experienced worse cramping/bleeding during the first 2 days. The other 2.5 days were abnormally light. The cramps weren’t anything a couple tablets of ibuprofen couldn’t take care of, but I don’t believe I took anything for them anyway. For the record, I absolutely love my IUD. It’s easily worth a bit more cramping and bleeding a few days a month for 10-12 years of effortless protection.
