April 2nd, 2011Question: CYSTIC ACNE CAUSED BY IUD?!?
Ive nvere had a problem with acne even as a teen. Im 25 now and just got the Mirena iud about 8 months ago and its been a nightmare! Ive been having acne in places that Ive never even had a pimple on like my back and chest. To top it all off Im having cystic acne on my chin and its very painful. I spoke to my doc. but she states cystic acne is not a side effect of the iud! I dont know what it could be because Ive noticed this acne has been coming on and getting worse ever since I got the iud? Can someone help me? Has anyone ever had this problem????

Although the causes of adult acne are unknown, doable causes include hormones, cosmetics, stress, and an increase of resistant bacteria. Women in particular often experience premenstrual flares, often around the mouth. I think it might be doable that your IUD might cause a change in hormones that might contribute to the acne.
