Cystic acne on my back?

November 12th, 2011 by Carrie

Question: Cystic acne on my back?
I have always had relatively clear skin. In middle school I went through a pretty bad bout of acne on my face, but it has long since cleared up. Anyway, my problem is this: I have terrible cystic acne on my back.

I have tried everything to clear it up. I have used proactiv, along with other acne products. I have used all sorts of scrubs, masks, gels, creams, etc. I do a very good job of keeping my back clean. I always shower after any type of exercise in order to wash off sweat. I’m at the end of my rope here. I have a trip to the beach in less than two weeks, requiring me to wear a swimsuit, but I am far too humiliated to be seen like this.

The acne is incredibly painful, even when my clothes barely rub against it. The pimples are evenhandedly large, and yes, cystic. They have no heads on them. PLEASE, help me. I really, really need to get this cleared up soon.

Forget all the topical over the counter stuff. If you really want to get rid of it once and for all get Accutane. I know it’s a hard drug but the success rate is 100% plus you will have clear skin for the rest of your life. Talk to your dermatologist about it.

Oh no, no, no, no, no. NEVER use face products on body acne. Body acne is tougher then the faces’. I suggest using the Neutrogena product ‘ Body Clear Wash’. http://neutrogena.com/SosSolution_2.asp?mainVal=so&subVal=11

This kind of acne isn’t just a simple breakout- it’s a serious skin condition. You need to see a doctor to get the proper treatment. It also sounds like you may have dermatitis. Maybe you are having a reaction to a certain soap or detergent, even if you haven’t changed brands. Sensitivities to these can develop any time.

In the meantime, DON’T wash your skin too often as this dries it out, causing it to overproduce oils to compensate. Use an anti-acne moisturizer and put on a clean white t-shirt (no fabric softener) to sleep in, and change your sheets at least twice a week.

Make youself a doctor appointment though. A dermatologist can give you medication (including cortisone injections into the cysts which shrink them almost instantly) to clear your skin quickly.

you have to be very careful when choosing an acne product these are just little examples like for body acne use body products for facial acne use facial products. also white skin is sensitive skin and with this you have to limit your use of many products because you may quickly get dermatitis (inflammation of the skin in which is an irritation of your skin because of many skin products) the best thing is not to try everything in a short period of time, and even the cleanest back may have acne, im assuming the skin on your back is irritated, the sun is a tricky thing, some get pimples from it and others dont, if your back is painful, i recommend to lay off the sun cause it may just agitate your skin, especially if your white, and what happens with agitated skin?, pimples or even dermatitis .
