How do I get rid of the discoloration from acne off of my back?
December 1st, 2010Question: How do I get rid of the discoloration from acne off of my back?
I’ve been battling back acne for a tiny over a year, and it’s only gotten worse. It’s not my entire back, just the upper half of it, leading all the way to my shoulder blades. The discoloration is pretty bad. I’ve been using the Neutrogena Body Wash, and it’s doesn’t really seem to be working. I’m worse off without it, but it doesn’t help much. I’m Latina, so the color of my skin is a medium tan and the discoloration is much darker.
I’m hesitant to use lightning cream, so I don’t want to use that unless there’s totally no other choice.
I can’t use salicylic acid on my face since my skin gets inflamed and starts to itch and burn, but it seems fine to use on the rest of my body.
What can I do to get rid of the discoloration, and prevent acne?
I take a shower each day, and whenever I work out or sweat, I make sure to take a shower right after. Yet, the acne still comes back, and it’s just adding to the already-huge mess of discoloration. It’s summer, and I’m humiliated to wear anything strapless or have my hair up. It’s becoming a large inconvenience.
Please help.

Have you been to your GP? I have suffered for acne for a number of years, and there are now some great antibiotics out there such as lymecycline, that has worked very well for me.
Also, I found that avoiding lactose / dairy has helped reduce my acne too.
Well, I am East Indian/Italian so I figure my complexion might be somewhere around yours. I don’t have bad acne on my face, one or two zits at a time but I get it bad on my shoulders and sometimes on my chest, and like you, they scar.
I scrub my back twice in the shower with a body brush using my normal body wash which is this Nivea Orange Blossom scented wash. That has nothing to do with fighting acne though.
But after I’m all done washing my body I use Neutrogena Acne Stress Control scrub on my face and on my shoulders and on my back and chest, and that’s after I wash my body and my hair to make sure all the oils are scrubbed off and the dirt because hair conditioners can be greasy. And when I’m done with that and I’m done showering and all dry, I put Clean & Clear Dual Action moisturizer on my shoulders and chest. It has salicylic acid in it and it helps fade the scars and helps get rid of my bumps. When I’m having a really bad breakout I apply an acne fighting cleanser to my skin and let it sit on it. I don’t know if that’s good for your skin, but my skin isn’t sensitive. Right now I have the Burt’s Bees Natural Acne Solutions Purifying Gel Cleanser (salicylic acid acne treatment from willow bark) and will put that on my shoulders and chest and back while I’m lounging in the house in a tank top. I have to pull the straps down because the cleanser is sticky. lol But after I let that sit for a couple hours I rinse it off with a damp washcloth and my skin does look clearer, especially the scars. And the Scrub definitely helps with getting rid of the actual acne.
