Is this baby acne, a rash or something else all together?
March 25th, 2009Question: Is this baby acne, a rash or something else all together?
My daughter is 6 weeks old, and at around 3 weeks develop what looks like a rash on her face. I was told by the Doc. that it was normal and would go away on it’s own,but it has now spread to her torso, neck, ears, arms and legs. It isn’t as bad on her face anymore but around her neck, ears and arms are horrible(looking.) What could this be and has anyone else experienced this. If you have any POSITIVE feedback or advice I would love to hear it. By the way, she is a breastfed baby, I use Baby ALL on her clothes and Johnson’s Bedtime Bath and lotion on her.

Maybe she’s allergic to your milk. Check that out immediately. I had a cousin which that happened to.

I don’t know if it helps, but when my daughter was a baby, she developed a rash it started on her face and spread to her body. I was told it was a milk rash and it was normal. The rash was very red and the spots were like little pin heads. At the time I was breast feeding. We tried her on formula as I wasn’t well and sh reacted to it. It turned out she had a very severe milk allergy. I continued to breast feed but the rash was still there, I hadn’t cut dairy from my diet so she was still receiving cow milk products. I went onto a vegan diet and the rash disappeared.
Personally I would try changing my diet, change to using aqueous cream rather than Johnsons lotion, I would also try oilatum (spelling maybe wrong) instead of scented bath products. Remeber to only change one thing at a time or you will not know what the problem was to begin with. Hope that helps
You had best get her to a dermatologist.
Baby acne and Newborn rash are the same thing. It is a very common thing and it does not hurt your baby one bit. It does look awful but that is all it does. It will go away on its own. You didn’t do anything wrong it is just something that happens to a lot of babies. Some babies have it head to toe with in days after birth.
Lots of people mistake it for ant bites in the nursery.
It is more then likely acne I read in what to expect the first year that at the point when it spreads like that you should contact the Dr.
Hi there, my daughter had this, too. The best thing to do is call your pediatrician’s office to ask, right away. They are used to getting all sorts of calls and should be able to help you a lot better than we can. If your dr’s office is not willing to give you phone advice or see you right away, it is time to look for a new pediatrician!
