Knowing The Martial Arts That Came From Asia

The goal is efeating the enemy or to defend one’s self from physical threat through an art of fighting or warfare is termed martial art. Today, many people are enrolling to schools which instruct a student how to defend his self. Many are considering martial art as a sport while some other doesn’t accept this.

Asia is known for having many different kinds of this type of sport is, more than 50 types. We have listed some of these here:

Karate – This was developed in Okinawa, Japan. This involves punching, kicking, elbow strike, knee strike, grappling, restraints, locking, throws, and open hand techniques like chopping. A mortal who practices the art of karate is called as karateka.

Eskrima – Also famous to the study as Arnis and Kali, eskrima is something that originated from The Philippines. The art emphasizes mainly on the use of a stick, blades, and other improvised weapons. Trapping, locking, empty hand techniques and limb destruction is also part of the sport. The weapons serve only as an extension of the body.

Sumo – This is a very favourite sport in the land of Japan and all over the world. This is considered to be a full contact sport where a wrestler will try to place another wrestler out of the circular ring or to touch the ground with anything aside from the soles of his feet. The players are usually fat and huge for added power and strength.

Gatka – This rooted from India. This can either be practiced as a sport or as a ritual. The art involves two opponents who spar with apiece other using wooden staves to act as sword. The “swords” might also be paired with a shield.

Taekwondo – Originated in Korea, and it is the national sport of South Korea today. Taekwondo was derived from three Korean words – tae, kwon, and do. Tae is to strike with foot, kwon is to strike with the use of fist and do means to method or art.

This is the combination of combat techniques, self-defense, exercise, sports, meditation and philosophy. South Korea adopted this to their military as part of its training because it is very effective. Taekwondo mainly consist of kicks because it is believed that the leg is the longest and strongest part of the body and weapon a martial artist has
