Negative Tell-tale Signs of Steroid Use

Discover some negative side effects steroids have had on bodybuilders in the past. Find out important information you need to know before you try anabolics.

1. The build up of breast tissue in men. Courtesy of the process of aromatization where the excess amounts of androgens like testosterone are converted into estrogen it is doable that in some cases men will develop breast tissue. This is known as gynocomastia. This term simply means that the male breast tissue undergoes a feminization process and this has been attributed to the use of anabolic steroids.

Once these extra androgens are converted into estrogen they find their way to the breast tissue receptors where they become bound. The result takes place in a few days. In some men this might start with some itchiness in the nipples mostly followed by a painful sensation. It is doable to counter the development of the breasts by going for surgery. Prior to using this option, the steroid individual can decide to use various anti-estrogen preparations including Arimidex.

Another option would be to use a preparation that serves two purposes i.e. being an anti-estrogen and an anti-aromatose inhibitor for example Letrozole. These help in destroying the tissues developed in the breast area. The bodybuilder should realize that the development of male breasts takes place in the same manner as it occurs in women. It is therefore advisable that male teens in particular refrain fro steroid use. This is because at this age their hormones are hyperactive and it is very simple that gynocomastia will occur at this stage.

2. The prevalence of acne with steroid use. It has been proven that the use of anabolic steroids is critical in the development of acne. The main factors of consideration in as far as the role of steroids in this particular side effect has to do with the type of steroid being used and the dosage volume. The skin’s subcutaneous layer contains sebaceous glands that are highly responsive to Dihydrotestosterone, a hormone derived from testosterone.

This hormone activates the stated glands and as a result the skin becomes oilier. When there are increased amounts of bacteria on the skin surface coupled with dead skin layers, the oily skin’s pores are easily clogged faster than the body can manage to control. This is the genesis of the acne. An athlete can use anti-androgen preparations that are topically applied to counter this problem but the simplest way to do so is to ensure that you keep yourself clean always.

3. An increased level of aggressiveness. Though this condition occurs in a few number of anabolic steroid users (about 5%), it is nonetheless a reality. This condition has come to be known as ‘roid-rage’ and it is characterized by increased irritability and aggressiveness, violence, psychosis and mania.

4. Baldness as result of steroid use. If the male individual of steroids is genetically predisposed to the Male Pattern of Baldness, MPB, the event that he will lose hair is highly probable. This is because the male scalps have high affinity to Dihydrotestosterone. The good thing about this type of baldness is that the effects are not as grave and that the consequences are cosmetic.

Question: Teenager at the gym on steroids?

So I basically go to the same gym (our city rec center gym quite big) nearly apiece day for the last 8 months months, and apiece since then there was a boy who was there all the time too at the same time as I was there, I see him there just about all the time. He was 14 when he first started, he was quite small, usually there with his older brother who I speak to occasionally if he is there (he is 25) real huge guy and there is no doubt he is on steroids himself. Over the first few months I see him there, he was quite skinny, about 5′4-5′5 at the time, looked about 120 lbs and just looked like he was building muscle in a normal innocuous way.

Now in the last month or so, he hasn’t been there at all, and then I see him again starting to go there, a lot of times alone he is now 15. He stands out from everyone there, he is normally the biggest mortal there (as all adults) he looks about 5′6 and is 170 lbs and his muscle growth seemed like it was way too fast, I even noticed right when he starts to lift weights or do an exercise his whole body turns red and veins pop out immediatly and his strength increase nearly seems abnormal. I remember him doing bench pressing 25s on apiece side which was 95lbs in total and struggled with that, now he is doing 10 reps of 215 with ease.

Is it doable he is on steroids? He has a lot of acne on his back and shoulders, looks ALOT older, (like in his 20s) and body turns red imediatly.
