August 8th, 2011Question: Pregnant and acne! Any home remedies to help it?
My face is like a pubescent teenager! I am nearly 7 weeks pregnant with my second child. My face is broke out so bad that it actually hurts! Is there any thing I can use? My physician stated I can't use proactive so I quit using it.
I am at my whits end! I just can’t take it anymore! Any home remedies out there that will get rid of it?

I don’t have any acne yet, but I’m crossing my fingers I don’t get it too bad. I’ve had acne before (not pregnancy related) and it sucks, so I know how you feel. I’ve relied on some antibiotics and topical creams for the past two years, and now that I can’t use them for awhile I’m almost worried about what my face will look like! lol
My friend had pretty bad pregnancy acne a couple years ago. She used some Clean & Clear acne face wash and after a week her acne was a lot less noticeable. Using an exfoliating face scrub is always good for getting rid of acne, no matter how it’s caused. That might hurt a little bit, so you could, like, gently put the exfoliator on your face and then take it off with a wet washcloth.

Truthfully, I used multiple different face cleaners and things…nothing worked. Now since I’ve hit my 20 weeks and on they’ve went away! Thank god and my skins clearer then ever. The nurse I also talked to said their from hormones…Not dirt so you really can’t do much about them…

I am also seven weeks(with my second), and my skin gets terrible when I’m pregnant! A good natural remedy is to use a face wash and a moisturizer with tea tree oil. I use Desert Essence Thoroughly Clean Face Wash. I find it in the natural section of the grocery store or at natural food stores. They also have a whole line of good things(all safe during pregnancy), I’m sure you can find it online.
A gentle exfoliator is good to use a few times a week too. Also, I’ve read that that the active ingredients in things like Clean & Clear should be avoided during pregnancy- benzoil peroxide and salicylic acid. Since I stopped using them in my first pregnancy, I just never used them again, and I think my skin has been better for it.

I’ll tell you what, go natural. Natural remedies work. Start off by ditching all harsh and synthetic chemicals. They are terrible for your skin in the long run (not to mention, expensive). Switch to all natural or organic products and you will see a major difference. I can’t even tell you how much my skin has improved just from using natural home remedies.
