February 16th, 2009Question: pregnant on Accutane … Christians, what would you do? On October 27 I started taking Accutane for my acne severe acne, facial and back. I took 40 mg per day until December 4 when it was increased to 80 mg per day. My dermatologist was very serious about the risk of pregnancy, but stated it was not a problem because I am a Christian and I will not have sex until I marry. I had my mother leave the room and then told me again that she knows a lot of teenage girls are uncomfortable speaking about his sex life, but I needed to take birth control while on Accutane if I was to have any of sex in all, I again stated I was not having sex and stated that well, but gave me instructions on how to get free birth control without finding my mother because of how essential it is to not get pregnant. about three weeks ago, I was raped. I was crying and solicitation him to please stop, this was not what I wanted I said, but he ignored me … It was something I never saw it coming … something I had heard of but never thought this could happen to me. This was not even a possibility that I had thought in my mind, and so, unfortunately, I had not been taking birth control. Now I have a life inside me, and he or she has an 80% chance of being born with serious birth defects if it is aborted. If it were any other time I would absolutely keep the baby, he did not ask to have a rapist of a dad and should not be killed for crimes of his father. I have not taken any Accutane since the incident because I will not make the situation worse, but I do not know what to do. Can you abort a baby you know you will probably have severe birth defects? Could he live with myself? I feel so stupid. This was not something I’ve dreamed in a million years would be me. I should have taken birth control, and I would if it was something that even occurred to me as a possibility. Please help me. I have fear and it’s like everything has changed. Greatest answer: Answer

. This is a heart that breaks something to read, and I feel for you very very much. First, if I told you mom, but I would absolutely do that. Do not be embarrassed, because in no way this is your fault. In my opinion, I would like to keep the baby anyway. Personally, it was unable to have an abortion. But this is something we have to speak more deeply with their parents, and above all, look within yourself. Because you know basically what to do. First of all, Im SO sorry that this happened to you. Did you report this to authority? It really needs to be reported so this man dont do this to other women! You will not get into trouble and its not your fault, please report this to an adult or counselor. They will lead you in the right direction of what to do with your baby. Me personally, I dont believe in abortion unless it is rape. That is a personal opinion and no one can make this decision except you. People can help steer you in the right way, but in the end, its your decision. I really hope everything works out for you. Please do the right thing and report this man!
If you were raped, you should have went to the ER and they would have given you emergency contraceptive to PREVENT this.
Go get birth control anyway. Birth control helped me SOOOOO much with my acne. If you don’t get your cycle, then discuss with a doctor at Planned Parenthood a nonsurgical abortion.
I’m Catholic (if that matters) and honestly, I’d abort it.
stop taking the accutane and talk to your ob maybe nothing at all will happen as long as you stop taking it .. and are monitored closely ..

Talk to your doctor and find out exactly what the possibility is that your baby will be affected. You could even wait to see the ultrasounds before making your decision, to see just how badly the baby is affected, if at all.
I am personally against abortion but if I was told that my baby would be completely miserable and not be able to function I might consider it. It would be heartbreaking but I tend to think it’s probably the best thing to give the baby back to God so it doesn’t suffer.
Also, don’t feel stupid. It’s not your fault you were raped.

Long story, sorry that happened but if you were raped why wouldnt you take the Plan B/ Morning after pill to prevent pregnancy?
It doesnt abort but it prevents it all together (like a high dose of birth control)
Doctors don’t know everything, your baby might be fine. You say you’re christian so dont abort. If the baby comes out and has too many problems for you to “Handle” then you should consider adoption, because even “special needs” children have families waiting to adopt them
Also stop taking that medication
I am so sorry for your situation! It is an awful thing that should never happen to anyone! Personally, I would terminate the pregnancy. It is true that the child never asked for a rapist as a father, but the child also does not deserve to never live a full and healthy life because of a medication you were taking! Please don’t think that I am saying it is your fault, it is absolutely NOT your fault, you did not ask for this to happen, and no matter what the situation, you did NOT bring this on yourself! You have to tell your parents, first and foremost! They can help you through this! Did you stop taking the accutane the day you were raped? It takes a couple of days for the egg to implant and the baby to start developing, if you stopped the day you were raped, it is possible that the baby is fine. If you were taking it until the day you found out you were pregnant, there is a good chance there will be problems. Talk to you parents, then talk to your doctor, and a councilor. You are the only person who can make this choice, but it is not selfish to terminate because the child may be sick or deformed and never have a chance for a real life. You were not being irresponsible and having unprotected sex, this situation was not your doing, it was forced on you. Do NOT feel stupid, you could not have predicted this and had no reason to be on birth control. I am so sorry this has happened to you, but please don’t blame yourself!
I had to abort a pregnancy because of some herbs I had been taking were know teratogens (known to cause birth defects). While I am not chrisitan (any more), I would think that even they wouldn’t have a problem with terminating a pregnancy if it was exposed to known agents that would cause severe birth defects.

If you go to a Planned Parenthood clinic that has a low-income program it can be as cheap as 100$. If you tells them you have no job, no money and no support they will likely have you pay the minimum for the procedure and get donations to cover the rest. 1-800-230-PLAN (1-800-230-7526) to find the Planned Parenthood clinic nearest you. If you are underage it will mostly likely be free and it’s always confidential.
You have the choice between the pill (which can be taken up to 11weeks, at home or at a friends house) or the vacuum method (in clinic procedure). Personally I used the pill method so I could be at home with my husband but some women want to have the surgical, so it’s done and over with when they leave the clinic.
You will be financially screened – usually this goes on the honor system, weight/height taken, blood pressure checked, pricked -fingertip- to check for rH factor and anemia, you will receive an ultrasound or sonogram to determine gestational age. You may be asked if you want to view the image, this is up to you. You will receive antibiotics, anti-nausea tabs and pain meds. Take them ALL. You must finish at the very least your course of antibiotics. Follow all aftercare instructions and go back to your after care appt. This last step is vital, you must go back for your aftercare appt! Abortion begins a new menstrual cycle. You should have a regular period in 4 to 8 weeks.you should have the option of receiving birth control – again this will most likely be free, take it and use it correctly.
