What is Gestational Tummy Molding

November 25th, 2010 by Angela

Maternity body casting molding is an brilliant and skillful way to celebrate the phases of pregnancy, developing a three dimensional heirloom which can be decorated, colored, and showcased as art work too.

Though a few pregnant women create at least one stomach sculpture to cherish their pregnancy by, others select to develop multiple castings so that they can remember the many stages of their maternity. Other than molding the extended stomach, quite a few decide to cast their breasts, arms, hands, or some other body part they wish, to be memorialized in the cast also. A favourite position for a belly cast is with the woman’s hands covering her pregnant belly.

Some women select to celebrate this event with their spouse, though some others think it would be more fun to share it with their girl friends and/or family also. Irrespective of what the situation might be, gestational tummy sculpting is a job for at least 2 people, or more if photos of the belly molding process are wanted.

Gestational belly molding could take some time so ensure the pregnant woman is very comfortable, has been to the restroom, and has something to relieve her thirst close by. Before starting, the relative should make sure that the work section, floor and seating, is covered with a wash cloth or an unused plastic cover.

Smear the sections that will be included in the body cast with Vaseline or something similar, then overlap the gauze strips in a criss-cross pattern over the Vaseline. This helps it set superior while it is drying. Let set for about thirty minutes then remove the belly sculpture for maternity by gently wiggling yourself  till it gets free after which your friend can lift it away from the pregnant woman.

Place the pregnancy tummy replica away for about one or two days. After it is absolutely dry apply a covering of Gesso to prevent environmental destruction. Gesso is a powdered type of the mineral calcium-carbonate used by creative people. Gesso might also be applied as a paint-primer for the stomach cast if the mom wants it painted.

If the belly mold is going to be colored, make sure it has been taken off from the expectant mom first. The plaster is not harmful to the skin but chemicals of the color can be harmful to mom and baby. Pregnancy tummy casting can be an enjoyable experience for all those involved, celebrating fun together with the chesty parent/s while making memories for generations to come. What superior way to celebrate a pregnancy!
