Gesso is a powdered type of the mineral calcium-carbonate used by creative people. Gesso might also be applied as a paint-primer for the stomach cast if the mom wants it painted.
If the belly mold is going to be colored, make sure it has been taken off from the expectant mom first. The plaster is not harmful to the skin but chemicals of the color can be harmful to mom and baby. Pregnancy tummy casting can be an enjoyable experience for all those involved, celebrating fun together with the chesty parent/s while making memories for generations to come.
