Why do some people automatically assume acne is because of poor hygiene?
November 18th, 2010Question: Why do some people automatically presume acne is because of poor hygiene?
Most acne is solely hormonal. In most cases acne is not because of poor hygiene… It is genetic and hormonal. Yes, a lot of the time it is because of clogged pores, but people with acne are more prone. To be honest, a lot of people with acne are more cleanly than people who are blessed with clear skin because they’re constantly having to keep up with it. My father and his brothers had cystic acne as teens, and so did I. Cystic acne (acne that doesn’t come to a head) is hormonal, and not due to hygiene.
It nearly makes me want to cry when people think acne is the person’s fault for “not taking care of their skin”. Inexperience is a horrible thing, which is why I’m posting this question (or statement, actually
).
Ryan, you suck. Really.

I totally agree with you on the ignorance thing, I can relate I have major acne and I have since I was seven and I’m sixteen now, and I always get these grossed out stares from others, and comments saying you should wash your face, wow you have a lot of acne, don’t you wash your face? * I have a shower everyday and do wash my face all the time, but it’s not my fault my whole family has it and nothing clears my acne up. So I just completely ignore them, cause this is how I am and I’m not covering myself up with make up or anything to impress them, this is what I look like, take it or leave it
