Question: Why do steroids and antibiotics seem to cure acne on me.?
I’ve spent 18 years, washing and lotioning my face and back so its not embarrasing and have noticed after getting into some poison oak a few years ago that the steroid they give for that absolutely remedied each pimple on my body, then later I got bronchitis, they gave me an antibiotic absolutely cured within two days, stayed cured until I stopped. So is acne an alergic reaction? Is there some way to find what it is your alergic to? I consume fair, work out, wash twice a day, currently using proactive because I needed something less drying and instead of soap I use the Nuetrogena body wash with sycllic acid. Sorry about the spelling. Any suggestions, or explanations would be appreciated.

No, it’s not alergic reaction. the problem is that acne is caused by bacteria(killed by antibiotics) and hormones(steroids are hormones) which make your skin produce fat. steroids are hazardous for permanent use as well as antibiotics. there are many ways to treat acne, and one of them is taking homeopatic medicine called sulfur iod or others(not difficult to find). works in 2 month, not earlier. I use birth control with a special anti-acne effect. also you can try clay self-heating masks, they work wonders on your back if you apply them for an hour (like Garnier or Montagne Jeunesse) and mud of the death sea. don’t pay much attention to skin problems, now it’sacne, later you’ll have wrinkles… it’s just life

An antibiotic would kill the bacteria in your acne, so you’re right. In fact, often doctors use antibiotics like Tetracycline to treat acne.

If this method inadvertently helped your acne, you should talk to your doctor about being prescribed something for your skin. Sometimes antibiotics work better for some people than using topical products. Tell him/her what you wrote above and I’m sure they’ll let you try it.

Sometimes ache can be an allergic reaction, but not all the time. The antibiotics, etc are pretty much cleaning out your body. I used Proactiv a long time ago and it actually made my face worse. Use natural stuff, not the synethic crap.

It’s salicylic acid DUDE. Steroids work on your face by reducing inflammation and antibiotics wipe out the nasty bacteria that contributes to acne. Hope this helps man.

Antibiotics and steroids are both often used by dermatologists. Antibiotics kill bacteria. Steroids are used as anti-inflammatory medications and can also often help with skin problems, like rashes. Acne is bacteria trapped in your pores and your skin being inflamed because of it.
Problem is that neither is healthy to use long term. Steroids can seriously mess you up if you stay on them more than a few weeks- it’s either your kidneys or liver that can fail from long term use of steroids, even at a low prescribed dose. Antibiotics can cause you to develop resistance to them. My dermatologist would require blood tests and change out antibiotics pretty regularly. But to really have them work on your skin, you need to be on them a few weeks, so it’s kind of a catch 22.
But try a dermatologist. They may be able to put you on a low dose, mild antibiotic as long as you get checked up regularly (every 6 months or so). I was on Erithromycin, among others, years ago. I’ve found out that even though I don’t have sensitive skin, per se, if I treat my skin like it’s sensitive, it does better.
